From 9–15 June, Bluebird Care is proud to support Loneliness Awareness Week 2025, a national campaign dedicated to breaking the stigma around loneliness and encouraging people to talk, connect, and reach out.
The theme of this year’s campaign is simple yet powerful: start a conversation. For us at Bluebird Care, that message couldn’t resonate more. Through our companionship care service, we aim to do exactly that — not just during one week of the year, but every single day.
Loneliness is more than a fleeting emotion. For many, it’s a persistent reality that can have profound effects on mental health, physical wellbeing, and overall quality of life. It can be especially tough for older adults who live alone or have limited opportunities for social interaction.
The facts speak volumes:
Over 1.4 million older people in the UK report feeling lonely.
Prolonged social isolation is associated with a higher risk of depression, cognitive decline, heart disease, and even premature death.
Many individuals go days, or even weeks, without a single meaningful conversation.
But behind these statistics are real people — mothers, fathers, grandparents, neighbours — who simply want someone to talk to, laugh with, or share a quiet moment of companionship.
Our approach to companionship goes far beyond
At Bluebird Care, our approach to companionship goes far beyond ticking a box. Whether it's a relaxed chat over a cup of tea, a walk in the park, playing a favourite game, or reminiscing about the past, our Care Assistants take the time to truly connect with each person they support. These simple, everyday moments help build trust, ease loneliness, and remind people that they are valued and seen.
Because to us, this isn’t just care — it’s connection.
As we mark Loneliness Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to look around, reach out, and start a conversation. Whether it’s with a neighbour, a loved one, or someone you haven’t spoken to in a while — your time could make a world of difference.
If you or someone you know could benefit from companionship support, we’re here to help.
