Transitioning to Live-In Care

Live-In Care

Empowering choices

Mrs N, North East

Mrs N, North East

Ms N has been a valued customer of Bluebird Care since June 2021, choosing to remain in her Newcastle home rather than move into a residential care facility. Initially, Ms N received support through our domiciliary care service, which enabled her to maintain her independence at home.

In September 2022, her late husband, Mr N, also came under our care as his health began to decline. He, too, remained at home, benefiting from our domiciliary care services until his passing in April 2023. Following his death, Ms N’s health began to gradually deteriorate, and the long periods of being alone at home exacerbated her situation. While our drop-in service continued, it became clear that she needed more regular care and support, especially as she had been accustomed to having someone around constantly.

In July 2023, we began discussions with Ms N’s family about her evolving needs, and live-in care emerged as the most suitable option. Over the next three months, we carefully transitioned Ms N from our domiciliary service to a round-the-clock live-in care package. This was done gradually, first introducing longer care visits to help her adjust to having a carer around more frequently. During this period, we also sourced a live-in care team specifically suited to Ms N’s care needs.

Since implementing live-in care, we have worked closely with Ms N and her family to ensure that her care is tailored to her changing circumstances. Our fully managed service has allowed us to adapt quickly, such as coordinating care breaks to respect family privacy during visits. Recently, as Ms N began experiencing sleepless nights and confusion due to a dementia diagnosis, we updated her care package to include two live-in carers—one during the day and one during the night—to ensure continuous support and supervision.

Thanks to the flexibility and responsiveness of our live-in care service, we have built a strong rapport with Ms N and her family, providing the oversight and hands-on care needed to meet her evolving needs and ensure she remains comfortable in her own home.
