Care provider gets glowing report for high standards

Bluebird Care received an inspection from the Care Quality Commission recently reporting on all aspects of the service.
An extract from the report says:
“Care staff supported people to maintain as much independence as they were able to. The service provided packages of care which were designed to enable people to regain their independence after illness or hospital stays. Care plans clearly noted how care staff were to help people in ways which promoted their independence. People who were supported by live-in carers were supported to make their own choices and maintain control over their daily life.
Care staff established effective working relationships with people and were fully aware of people's likes and dislikes, needs and wishes. A relative commented, ‘Although they have to do lots of tasks for them both, they still make time to talk to them and have a laugh with them too. They have built up a real bond with them which is amazing to see and they look forward now to the carers coming.’”
Providing care in the community throughout the whole of West Berkshire, Bluebird Care’s personal, tailor-made approach has proved to be a big hit with customers. The business is owned and operated by Phil Miles and John Prendergast - who are both passionate about providing high quality care for local people.
Inspectors from the regulator visited the area recently to find out what services Bluebird Care was offering, and the impact these were having on people’s lives.
As well as the high quality provision of personal care, the report also highlights the positive work that has been done to include customers in the day-to-day decisions about the care they receive.
The report went onto quote customers and their relatives who praised the service they receive:
“People were offered support by caring staff who were committed to providing kind and compassionate care. A relative commented, ‘At the start my relatives were fighting any form of care and Bluebird have turned the whole situation round with the patience and kindness that they show.’ People told us care staff were, ‘Respectful and kind.’
Positive comments included, ‘I’d like to mention how good Bluebird Care is at looking after people with dementia. They seem to have great experience and knowledge about dementia and a great sympathy and understanding to how the people they look after feel.’ Another said, ‘The needs of my relatives are definitely being met.’ An additional comment was, ‘[The carer] has always provided a first class service and related to my [relative] in an excellent manner. The administration office maintains good communications and we are extremely satisfied with the service extended to us.”
Inspectors then went on to add:
“People's diverse needs were included in plans of care. The information included life history, religious, cultural and lifestyle choices as appropriate to the care package they were receiving. The service matched people, as far as possible, with staff who had the skills, training and characteristics to meet their individual needs.”
The Care Quality Commission’s positive report allows the organisation to stand out from other providers of care in West Berkshire.
With the local office based in Newbury, care is provided in Hungerford, Lambourn, Kintbury, Compton, Streatley, Pangbourne, Theale, Burghfield, Mortimer, Padworth, Aldermaston and Thatcham.

Bluebird Care provides professional care staff who visit older and disabled people in their own homes. Care visits can last for as half an hour or an hour at a time up to full time live in care.
