Meet our team of care professionals

Elizabeth Otukoya
Supervisor

Elizabeth was one of the first carers ever employed by Bluebird Care – joining the company in 2012. Having qualified to be a social worker, Elizabeth left us in 2016 to take up a professional appointment in Cambridge Childrens Services work. At the end of her assignment, Elizabeth decided for family reasons that she preferred to work closer to Milton Keynes and after some persuasion by David, agreed to re-join Bluebird Care as a Supervisor in May 2018.

Nadine Cross
Recruitment and Marketing Manager

Nadine joined Bluebird Care as a Care Assistant having previously worked as an estate agent.  She first joined us in 2020 in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic.  She had been volunteering during lock down to assist her elderly neighbours and found it so rewarding that she decided that this was something that she would like to do as a career.  Nadine excelled at the role and her hard work and fast learning meant that she was quickly promoted to the role of Senior Carer.  After a few months in this role, Nadine was asked to join the office team, working as a Co-ordinator.   She left us briefly for a few months in 2022 due to a change in her personal circumstances but we are delighted to have her back in January 2023 in her new role as Recruitment and Marketing Manager.

Nadine's experience in many different roles here at Bluebird Care mean that she has an excellent understanding of what makes a fantastic Care Assistant and she is passionate about finding others, like her, who may not have prior experience but who have the right personal qualities to match the Bluebird Care values.  As well as working in the office, managing our recruitment, marketing and social media accounts, you will often find her out and about, flying the Bluebird Care flag (metaphorically) and talking to anyone and everyone about exciting career opportunities in social care and what services Bluebird Care can offer to our customers.

David Howard
Director

Graduating from university many years ago with a degree in Law, David joined the Ministry of Defence where he performed many roles including spells in consultancy, policy advice, the press office and as the senior civil servant overseeing  Schools for the children of British military schools overseas.  In 2011 he led a team to reduce the size of the MOD civil service by 25% and as part of that work managed to devise his own exit, so that he could change career and open Bluebird Care (Milton Keynes). His interest in the care sector started several years earlier when his sister suffered a catastrophic accident which left her quadriplegic. David is married with two grown up children, five grandchildren and a dog. Hailing from Wales, David enjoys all sports and has had a lifelong love affair with Liverpool Football Club, which has caused him enjoyment and heartache in equal measure.

Catherine Slater
Director

Catherine grew up in Milton Keynes and lives in Newport Pagnell with her husband and three children. After graduating from the University of Liverpool with a degree in Modern History and Politics, Catherine worked in advertising sales for a London publishing house before travelling the world and then returning to university to study for a PGCE in secondary education.  She joined Bluebird Care in 2019 as an Assistant Director after working as head of the History department in a local secondary school for 10 years.

Catherine has recently completed a Level 5 Leader in Adult Care Apprenticeship and is now a Director of Bluebird Care Milton Keynes responsible for the day-to-day running of the business.

Ninitha Thomas
Care Manager

Ninitha was brought up in India. After leaving school she graduated as a nurse and from 2010-2011 worked in a hospital theatre as a staff nurse. In 2011 Ninitha moved to London to take a BSc degree in Health Studies. During these studies, she worked initially as a Care Assistant in Milton Court Care Centre and then as a Client Manager for Amegreen Complex Care.  In 2015, Ninitha joined Bluebird Care as a Co-Ordinator and Training Manager – a position she held until the autumn of 2017. In October 2017, David asked her to become Care Manager – and in December the CQC accepted the nomination and confirmed her position of Registered Manager of Bluebird Care (Milton Keynes). Ninitha is married and lives at home with a variety of disabled and disadvantaged cats!

Gemma Wilson
Supervisor

Gemma joined Bluebird Care as a care assistant in September 2015, Although it was her first job in care, she quickly grew into the role. After returning from maternity leave in 2017, she volunteered to join the office team and became a part time coordinator.  She later took on the coordinator role full time, although she continued to provide care to some of her long-term customers.

More recently Gemma has taken on the role of Supervisor which has seen her move away from day-to-day rostering, focussing instead on arranging and overseeing care for our customers.  She is often the first person customers will meet from Bluebird Care as she carries out the majority of new care assessments.
