Proud to support those who have served

Veterans Care and Support

At Bluebird Care Milton Keynes, we believe that those who have served our country deserve care, respect and understanding. We are committed to providing compassionate, personalised care that recognises the experiences, needs and individuality of every veteran we support.

A personal connection to the Armed Forces community

Our commitment to supporting veterans is something that is close to our hearts at Bluebird Care Milton Keynes. Our Director, David, spent 35 years working for the Ministry of Defence before establishing Bluebird Care. During his career, he had the experience of living on Army bases in both Cyprus and Germany, giving him a personal insight into military life and the close-knit community that surrounds it. Through these experiences, David developed an appreciation of the unique challenges, experiences and sacrifices associated with Armed Forces life, not only for those who serve but also for their families. This personal connection is one of the reasons we are so passionate about ensuring that veterans in our local community receive the understanding, respect and support they deserve.

Having spent 35 years working for the Ministry of Defence and experienced life within military communities overseas, I have a real appreciation of the Armed Forces community and the experiences of those who serve.

Establishing Bluebird Care gave me the opportunity to make a difference to people's lives, and I feel strongly that we should do everything we can to ensure veterans in our community receive the care, understanding and respect they deserve

Our commitment to the Armed Forces community

We recognise the valuable contribution made by serving personnel, veterans and their families, and are committed to treating all members of the Armed Forces community fairly and with respect. We understand that some veterans may have unique experiences or needs that require additional understanding and consideration. We are committed to continually developing our knowledge and working alongside specialist organisations to ensure veterans and their families receive the understanding and support they deserve.

How Bluebird Care can support you

Care that understands veterans

We don't make assumptions about someone's military background or experiences. We take the time to listen, understand what matters to them and build a care package around their individual needs.

We don't make assumptions about someone's military background or experiences. We take the time to listen, understand what matters to them and build a care package around their individual needs.

We understand military experiences

We recognise that service life can shape someone's routines, identity, communication and expectations.

Consistency and trust

We understand the importance of building relationships and, wherever possible, providing familiar care staff.

Respect and independence

We are committed to supporting veterans to retain control over their daily lives, choices and routines.

Understanding individual needs

We recognise that some veterans may have physical injuries, disabilities, mobility difficulties, long-term health conditions or psychological effects associated with their service.

How we can help

We can offer domiciliary and live-in care but with additional awareness of the Armed Forces community.

  • Personal care: Support with washing, dressing, grooming and maintaining personal hygiene with dignity and respect.
  • Help around the home: Meal preparation, light housework, laundry, shopping and other everyday tasks.
  • Companionship and social support: Friendly visits, conversation, help getting out and about and support to stay connected with the community.
  • Support with mobility and independence: Help moving around safely, maintaining routines and enjoying everyday activities.
  • Respite and family support: Giving partners and family carers time to rest, knowing their loved one is being looked after.

We can offer flexible care, from occasional visits through to more regular daily support, depending on individual needs.

Our team is developing specialist awareness

We believe good care starts with understanding. That's why we are investing in additional training for our team to help them better understand the experiences, needs and challenges that some veterans may face. We are working with organisations within the Armed Forces community to develop our knowledge and ensure our team can provide informed, sensitive and appropriate support.

Veteran-friendly care at home.

The Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF) currently focuses on supporting care homes to better understand and meet the needs of veterans.

However, we believe this understanding is just as important for those who wish to remain living independently in their own homes.

Many veterans don't need residential care, but may benefit from a little extra help with everyday life. We believe they deserve access to care from people who understand and respect their experiences.

At Bluebird Care, we are passionate about helping to develop a more veteran-friendly approach to home care, so that those who have served our country can receive the understanding, support and personalised care they deserve, in the comfort of their own homes.
