Cornwall has it’s first ‘Outstanding overall’ home care team, awarded by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) this week. Bluebird Care in Truro is the first care at home provider to achieve this highly sought after CQC rating under the new system which began last year.

Gale Stirling, Head of Adult Social Care South (East) at CQC said: “We have found that Bluebird Care at Home delivers an exceptional standard of care. There was excellent feedback from people and family members which showed staff made a positive and meaningful difference to people’s lives”.

Bluebird Care Director Graham Carruthers said: “These amazing care at home teams are out every day of the year, come rain and shine, starting often before dawn and finishing well after dark, providing the care necessary for frail or vulnerable people to live independently in their own homes”. Bluebird Care Director Carol Carruthers said “We are so proud of our wonderful care teams who work tirelessly and make such a difference to the lives of so many people in Cornwall. These are the unsung heroes of the care industry who are committed to caring for our customers above and beyond, and go the extra mile. We are so delighted they have been rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC in the ‘Caring’ category for the standard of care they provide”.

It has been a bumper week for this Bluebird Care team. They were also rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC in the ‘Well-led’ category, and the Care Manager Caroline Sommerville was awarded the Regional Registered Manager of the Year award for the South West region by Bluebird Care at their national awards ceremony in London this week, above 40 other offices in the region. Caroline said “I am proud and honoured to lead such an outstanding team”. There are over 180 Bluebird Care franchise offices around the country employing 15,000 staff and delivering 7 million care visit a year.

A full report of the CQC inspection has been published today on their website, and inspectors rated Bluebird Care Outstanding for being caring and well-led, and Good for being safe, effective and responsive to people’s needs.

Gale Stirling said: “There was a real commitment to provide high quality care and to people who live in their own homes. This was underpinned by a culture that was caring, compassionate and highly motivated. Both staff and management went the extra mile to provide a service where people felt safe, cared for and supported. Staff had the right skills and knowledge and the service was continually striving to improve the care they offered.  All of the staff should feel proud of the work they do and of the outstanding support they give to people in their care”.
