Kent Dementia Awards

Published: 22/05/2019

We are proud to have sponsored the very first "Kent Dementia Awards" where we presented an award for Kent's Best Community Involvement Initiative.

Part of our work supporting our communities involves working with local organisations as part of a Dementia Friendly Communities Project.

We are privileged to chair the project in Dartford and proud to have sponsored the very first "Kent Dementia Awards" where we presented an award for Kent's Best Community Involvement Initiative.

You can read more about the Best Community Involvement Initiative award on the Dementia Friendly Kent website.

The awards were held at Sessions House and the winner from the category we sponsored was The Oasis Academy in the Isle of Sheppy for their Dementia Cafe project.

The Dementia Cafe project involved seven themed cafes which have been well attended by residents of local care homes, members of Age UK and local residents in the community.

The project was a great success with large numbers of people attending and returning again. Themes have included anything from Christingles in December to an easter egg hunt at Easter.

The awards were a great opportunity to celebrate and recognize the fantastic work that many organisations and groups from across Kent carry out to support people in our communities living with dementia.

Nathan, Community Liaison Manager commented 'it was a privilage for us to sponsor this award and great to see so many deserving groups and projects nominated. In a sense all of the nominees were winners because of the impact their work makes to peoples lives!'
