We are proud to be supporting Older People's Day on Tuesday 1st October and sharing the message that 65+ counts!

The first Older People's Day was in 1991 and it's goal is to raise awareness about issues affecting the elderly. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.

It is these positive contributions that we are aiming to raise awareness of through our 65+ campaign.

We have put together three of the many ways that older people make a valuable contribution towards society and we would like to take the opportunity to celebrate and thank them!

Volunteering

As well as keeping active and contributing towards positive wellbeing, volunteering creates the opportunity to give something back to society.

It also creates opportunities to make valuable connections in the local community and according to the NCVO, people aged 65 - 74 make up the biggest portion of those volunteering!

Sharing Wisdom & Mentoring Young(er) People

With a lifetime of experience, older people have a tremendous amount that they can share.

As well as general life wisdom, older people are able to share and support those in a similar line of work or with similar interests to grow.

Sharing Information About the Past

Older people have a unique perspective about events and activities from the past; because they have lived through them!

We can learn a lot from past events and as with learning from the wisdom that older people can bring, there is a lot we can learn from their experiences in past events.

I am proud to support Older People's Day and would like to thank all those aged 65+ for the valuable contribution to society that they have made throughout their lives and continue to make!
