#MyStory - Hear From Customer Ron

Published: 21/05/2019

As we continue with our #MyStory campaign, we would like to thank customer Ron, who lives in East Peckham and recently shared his story with us.

The support we provide our customers not only helps with their day to day physical activities, but it also enables them to remain at home; where they are most familiar and have many happy memories for as long as possible.

As we continue with our #MyStory campaign, we would like to thank customer Ron, who lives in East Peckham and recently shared his story with us.

Although many of our customers have significant health issues, they have many years of life experience and this is something we want to celebrate throughout this campaign.

We provide day to day support to Ron due to his macular degeneration and previously supported his wife.

At our recent tea & chat event with Age UK Maidstone, we arranged for Ron to attend and were honoured to hear more about his life story. Ron explained:

"I was born in Hackney and have lived in the same house in East Peckham since I moved here with my wife in 1960. We have some excellent memories of family life in this house!

I worked in the civil service for much of my career and was involved in some big projects. Before that, I worked in the RAF for two years when I was conscripted. My role was to plot radar movements and I did quite enjoy it.

Although my mobility is not great now, I used to very much enjoy cycling! I would regularly go on long rides and would think nothing of a 100-mile ride over to Europe (using the ferry of course).

I would like to thank Bluebird Care for the support that they provide me and provided my wife. It really is quite good, and the staff are lovely.

To be able to remain at home is a tremendous help as because of my eyesight not being so good, adapting to a new environment can be difficult and at home I know where everything is."

If you would like to find out more about joining our team and how you can help make a difference to the lives of people such as Ron, we would like to hear from you!
