Andrea’s AMMF Army complete Everest Base camp climb for Charity

Andrea and her team started their trek on the 15th February, they arrived at Everest Base Camp on the 22nd February. Andrea described the climb as very challenging, with rocky terrain and difficult weather conditions to battle with. Andrea and her team all worked together and had assistance from guides and Sherpas to help them along the way!

Andrea and her team have taken part in a range of fundraising activities, from long distance cycle rides (Vietnam to Cambodia!) to climbs of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Kilimanjaro, and we are so pleased to have been able to show our support along the way. Andrea’s AMMF army have raised over £46,000 for AMMF, which is the UK’s only Cholangiocarcinoma Charity. Cholangiocarcinoma is a very rare form of bile duct Cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma has a low survival rate, as it is hard to diagnose early. The only potential cure is surgery, which Andrea went through herself in November 2015. Andrea describes what happened during her diagnosis below:

“I had been experiencing some severe pain and discomfort in my ribcage and initially it was put down to strained muscles, however on further investigation and X-rays a mass was detected on my liver. After initially being given just weeks to live I managed to defy the odds and go on to have major surgery to my liver in November 2015 to remove the cancer. This was then followed by 6 months of chemotherapy. At times, I was left feeling very ill and weak and in and out of hospital but giving up never entered my head!”
