Funding your home care
Can I get financial help to pay for home care?
Paying for home care is one of the biggest concerns for families across Lancaster, Morecambe, South Lakeland (Kendal, Windermere, Grange and Kirkby Lonsdale) and surrounding areas. The good news is that there are several ways to fund care, and you may be entitled to financial support depending on your circumstances.
Whether you're arranging care for yourself or a loved one, understanding the funding options available can make planning for care much less overwhelming.
Local Authority Funding
If you live in Lancaster & South Lakeland, you may be eligible for funding from the local authority adult social care department. Depending where you live, this would be Lancashire County Council or Westmorland Council. Anybody can request a Care Needs Assessment and if needs are identified, this would be followed by a separate Financial Assessment (also known as a means test).
If you qualify, the council may contribute towards the cost of your home care, helping you remain independent in the comfort of your own home. At the very least, they will be able to provide you with a wide range of advice and guidance on what community support is available.
