Funding your care
Ways in which you can receive financial assistance to help pay for your care
Understanding how to pay for care can sometimes feel complicated, particularly if you’re arranging support for the first time. Depending on your circumstances, you may be entitled to financial assistance towards the cost of care at home.
Can I get help to pay for homecare?
Your local authority may be able to contribute towards the cost of your care following a care needs assessment and financial assessment. These look at the support you need and your financial circumstances to determine whether you may be eligible for help with care costs.
Some people choose to arrange and pay for their care privately, while others receive full or partial financial support.
There may also be other forms of financial assistance available depending on your individual circumstances, including certain benefits and NHS funding.
Where should I start?
If you think you or a loved one may need care, a good first step is to contact your local council and request a care needs assessment. This can help identify what support may be appropriate and whether you could qualify for financial assistance.
If you’re arranging care privately, you can also speak directly to a homecare provider to discuss the type and amount of support you need.
