Award-winning homecare provider, Bluebird Care Islington & Hackney is supporting this year’s World Arthritis Day which takes place on the 12th October 2019. World Arthritis Day is an international awareness raising day, headed up by The European League Against Rheumatism.

The theme of this year’s day is “Time2Work” which focuses on raising awareness and the importance of enabling people with a rheumatic or musculoskeletal disease to still carry on working. “Time2Work” is part of the “Don’t Delay, Connect Today” campaign which stresses the importance of early diagnosis of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases and access to treatment.  

Arthritis refers to any disorders that affects the joints, causing inflammation. The NHS states that it is a common global condition, causing pain and disability and affecting more than 10 million people living in the UK (NHS choices).

Rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases are a wide range of diseases that affect the joints, muscles, tissues and internal organs. These diseases affect all ages, including children. The diseases can cause pain, inflammation, stiffness, reduced mobility and deterioration the joints, muscles and bones. The diseases have a huge impact on the quality of life, they affect everyday activities and many people are forced to leave work due to significant disabilities.
