Bluebird Care Hull and Beverley customer Hilary Tobin has spoken to the Hull Daily Mail about her distress at council plans to move her care package to a cheaper company.

Ms Tobin came to Bluebird Care in December after we took on 30 customers following an emergency request from Hull City Council. The move came after the council’s “preferred providers” were placed into special measures.

Ms Tobin said: “I know it’s about saving money but it’s going to cut the quality of care as well. (Bluebird Care) do a good job and I’m not happy about being moved.”

Bluebird Care Hull and Beverley director Mike Thompson said: “I fully appreciate the challenges local authorities are facing in trying to support those in need on a shoestring budget due to government cuts.

“However, I am appalled and dismayed at the current draconian tactic employed by Hull City Council commissioners, abusing their authority and contacting directly some of the most vulnerable people in our communities without the involvement of their social workers, family members and current care providers.”
