The Difference Support Makes - Doug's Story

As part of our #MakeADifference campaign, we recently visited customer Doug and heard his story along with the difference that the support our team give makes. Doug has a live in Care Assistant who provides support round the clock and has been with us for just over a year. The support that we provide makes a tremendous difference.

As well as hearing his story, we shared an ice cream as we are encouraging our community to remember to stay hydrated and safe throughout the heatwave!

Doug explained that:
I am currently living in the house I grew up in and it has a lot of memories for me. My family have also always owned the house next door so it is a really familiar area for me and one that I did not want to leave.

My house is full of models as this not only used to be my hobby, but also my job. My models really bring back some great memories and all have a story behind them.



I even used to have a model shop in Harrow called 'Seymour Model Shop' and although it is now closed, it was a very popular stop for hobbyists!

After having my toe amputated, I needed round the clock support and the options I had were to move into a care home or make arrangements for live in care. I chose live in care as I did not want to move somewhere that I did not know.

My advocate found Bluebird Care online and they stood out as a reliable, trustworthy company so made the arrangements for my support. I have found those who live with me to be lovely!

I must say, the goal of live in care is to help me remain at home and that is certainly something that it has done and I am very happy!
