The results of the Blind Football European Championships 2015!

Bluebird Care Herefordshire were delighted to help sponsor the Blind Football European Championships 2015. The action took place at Hereford’s the Point4 from 22 to 29 August.

Bluebird Care Herefordshire were delighted to help sponsor the Blind Football European Championships 2015. The action took place at Hereford’s the Point4 from 22 to 29 August.

Bluebird Care Herefordshire were delighted to help sponsor the Blind Football European Championships 2015. The action took place at Hereford’s thePoint4 from 22 to 29 August.

IBSA, the International Blind Sports Federation, is in charge of a wide variety of sports for athletes who are blind or partially sighted.

Blind football is fast paced and as entertaining as its sighted counterpart. Players locate the ball, which contains a bell or ballbearings, purely by sound. Other players, the manager, and a shooting assistant direct the players around the around the pitch.

The participating teams this year were Spain (reigning European Champions), England (hosts), Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Russia, and Turkey.

The competition came down to a final four teams - England, Spain, Russia and Turkey. England played Spain, the result was 0-0 but Spain won on penalties. And in the finals Turkey face Russia, with Turkey coming out victorious. The final results were as follows:

1st - Turkey
2nd -Russia
3rd - Spain
4th – England

Both Turkey and Russia have qualified for the Special Olympics in Rio 2016, the other teams are focusing on the next European Championships in 2017, and qualification for the 2018 World Cup.
