A social welfare project based in Hammersmith & Fulham, which has made a huge difference to the lives of local people, has received support from one of the area’s care providers.

Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank, part of the national Trussell Trust, gave out more than 4,000 supplies of food in 2016 to those who found themselves in food crisis.

Rob Howell, Hammersmith & Fulham Foodbank, said:

Foodbanks provide three days of emergency food to people who need it the most. Professionals such as health visitors, social workers and the CAB identify people in crisis and issue them with a Foodbank voucher.

The voucher can then be brought to one of our Foodbank distribution centres where a friendly team of volunteers will offer a cup of tea and help people with their food needs.

The predominant reasons people come to us are due to being on a low income, benefit delays, changes to their benefits, ill health and unemployment.”

Foodbank coordinators are always looking for support from businesses too to help keep their operational costs low.

Bluebird Care, who provide personalised care and support to people living in their own homes across Hammersmith and Fulham, last week donated 250 carrier bags for use at the Foodbank.

Soheila Amin, Bluebird Care Hammersmith & Fulham Managing Director, said:

“We were only too pleased to give a helping hand to our local Foodbank with these new carrier bags.

Since supermarkets introduced the 5p charge for carrier bags last year it’s meant that charities that previously relied on them for projects like this can no longer do so.”

Bluebird Care’s supply of carrier bags will be used each week so visitors to the Foodbank can safely and securely take their food parcels home.
