Bluebird Care in the North West of Surrey (Guildford & Waverley and Rushmoor & Surrey Heath offices) has been using Dog Therapy as part of their services.

Bluebird Care in the North West of Surrey (Guildford & Waverley and Rushmoor & Surrey Heath offices) has been using Dog Therapy as part of their services during ‘normal’ times and have been continuing to do this throughout the Coronavirus pandemic.

Dog Therapy can have a positive impact on mental, physical, social and psychological wellbeing. Research shows that being able to touch and stroke a friendly animal can bring comfort, relaxation and joy to the individual.

The presence of a dog can be so beneficial that they can help reduce the risk of stroke and heart disease. Studies have found that bonding with dogs can release endorphins, decrease stress hormone levels and reduce heart rate and blood pressure. Trained Dog Therapists are non-threatening and non-judgmental, making it easier for individuals to open-up, decrease anxiety and bring about a sense of calmness.

Bluebird Care Assistant Michelle took her gorgeous dog Bertie to see a customer this week, who was isolating due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Mary, a customer from Camberley, said:

“I love dogs, it was such a delight to see Bertie! He really cheered up my day and made me smile!”

Katerina Papamichalaki, Managing Director of the Bluebird Care North West Surrey offices, commented:

Dog Therapy is a perfect way for our customers who are unable to take care of a full-time dog, to interact with a fully trained Dog Therapist.

During this difficult time period, when many of our customers are at home in isolation, Dog Therapy can really help decrease loneliness and lift our customers’ spirits.”
