Home and Live In care provider, Bluebird Care Guildford and Waverley has awarded its first community grant to an exciting project which will have a big impact on the quality of life of older people living in the area. They launched the scheme offering up to £250 for one project which their staff felt would improve the lives of older residents in the borough. Company director Katerina Papamichalaki decided to support the Crossroads Care Surrey project in Worplesdon.

Katerina Papamichalaki, Director of Bluebird Care Guildford and Waverley said:

“Charities and groups like Crossroads Care Surrey play such an important role in the community, providing support, new activities, skills and friendship to some of the most vulnerable people locally. We at Bluebird Care believe that providing good quality care is just one part of supporting older members of the community.

It was very difficult to decide which project to support but after much discussion with staff, we decided on Crossroads Care Surrey. We feel very privileged to be able to provide some funding to help this charity grow its services and help more people.”.

Money awarded by Bluebird Care will help Crossroads Care Surrey to launch a new activity for men at the Worplesdon Adult Social Club, providing outdoor materials which will be appreciated by club members, their families and carers.

Christine Cleveland, CEO for the charity said;

“‘The grant will enable Crossroads Care Surrey to get male clients at the club involved in creative and practical activities, including putting together wooden bird tables and feeders which can then be appreciated by clients attending the club, and their carers, as well as any visitors of the feathered type.

The Worplesdon Club is a highly valued weekly respite support group which gives carers of older people with dementia and / or other complex health issues, who live within the local Guildford and Waverley community a much needed and much treasured respite break.

We are very grateful to the grant from the Bluebird Care Guildford and Waverley Community Grant fund to make this possible.”

The cheque was presented to Crossroads Care Surrey by Katerina Papamichalaki at a special event run by Bluebird Care to celebrate services for older in Farnham.

Bluebird Care Guildford and Waverley offers a realistic alternative to residential care by allowing people to stay in their own homes with care and support. The care assistants’ work can involve one or more short visits a day in order to help with the everyday tasks of life. However, the service doesn’t stop there because longer duration visits are also available, including overnight help and live-in care.

Bluebird Care Guildford & Waverley is planning future grant rounds. If you have a project which supports older people in the area and you would like more information about how to apply for a grant, please call Michael Auton on 07862 253514 or email
