Bluebird Care Greenwich is supporting Mental Health Awareness Week 2019 which takes place from 13-20th May 2019 and is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation.

The Mental Health Foundation is a charity that has over 70 years experience of helping raising awareness about mental health problems that many people are facing during their lives. In the UK, approximately 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health issue each year. Mental Health Awareness Week aims at spreading awareness about mental health issues, making people understand the impact of them on someone’s life and how to deal with it. In England, 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (such as anxiety or depression) in any given week.

This years theme is Body Image. How we think and feel about our bodies is really important in our society and can impact our lives and the way we feel about ourselves. Having a bad image of ourselves can be a risk factor for mental health issues, this is why taking care of your own body image is really important to keep a good and healthy mental health. “One in five adults (20%) felt shame, just over one third (34%) felt down or low, and 19% felt disgusted because of their body image in the last year.” (Mental Health Foundation, 2009).
