Bluebird Care Gravesham & Dartford is pleased to announce that Valley Hospital Charity has been awarded the second Bluebird Care Community Grant which is to be presented in the next few weeks.

The grant of £500 will support the Silver Birch Fund that encourages charitable giving towards older adult patients at a time of ill health.

Almost two thirds of patients admitted to hospital are older people and 25% are over 85 years of age. In addition, many older people have no family or carers to accompany them or visit if admitted with those who do often having an elderly spouse.

Monies raised help purchase little extras that make this stay in hospital a little easier and help patients know they are cared for while away from the home. As well as larger pieces of medical equipment, monies go towards things including skype enabled laptops or tablets, games and additional clothing.

About the Bluebird Care Community Grant, Tanya, Bluebird Care (Gravesham & Dartford) Care Manager explained that:
The work that Valley Hospital Fund do is fantastic and it is because of the challenge that we know older people can face when admitted to hospital we chose this nomination for our July grant.

I am delighted to award this grant to such a worthwhile cause and look forward to presenting it very soon.
