After surgery affected Moira's confidence and made everyday tasks more difficult, personalised support from Bluebird Care Gravesham & Dartford has helped her feel more comfortable getting out, enjoying company and continuing to do more for herself at home.
Losing confidence after surgery
Following hip replacement surgery and the removal of a toe, everyday life became more challenging for Moira. She had been advised not to go outside on her own and was feeling unsteady on her feet.
Her confidence had also been affected. Moira felt down and wasn't sure how she would cope with everyday life.
Housework, shopping and getting to appointments had become more difficult. With her family busy with work, they were also concerned about Moira being on her own and managing these day-to-day tasks.
Support built around Moira
Bluebird Care began supporting Moira with the things that had become more difficult, while helping her maintain as much independence as possible.
Her personalised care includes companionship, help with shopping and appointments, and support with housework.
Just as importantly, Moira is treated as an individual. Her Care Experts spend time chatting with her, listening to what she has to say and working with her rather than simply doing everything for her.
Moira describes the relationship she has developed with her Care Experts simply:
“They feel like family.”
Getting out and enjoying life again
Being able to get out and enjoy company has become an important part of Moira's support. She enjoys going out with her Care Experts, having a chat and attending activities including Christmas parties and Memory Cafés.
These relationships are an important part of Moira's experience. As she puts it:
“I love to chat and laugh.”
Moira now feels happy and relaxed going out with Bluebird Care and is comfortable asking for help when she needs it.
Doing more for herself at home
Moira's care is designed to support her independence, not take over the things she can still do for herself.
She continues to take her own medication and make her own tea in the evening. Her Care Experts can provide reminders around medication when needed and help with other tasks that have become more difficult.
Moira has become more confident asking for help when she needs it, while continuing to do the things she can independently. Her home is kept tidy, she is eating better and taking her medication regularly, while retaining an active role in her own daily routine.
Reassurance for Moira and her family
Personalised home care has also provided reassurance for Moira's family. Knowing that someone is visiting, spending time with Moira and helping with everyday activities means they know she has support around her when they can't be there themselves.
For Moira, that support is about more than completing a list of tasks. It's about being listened to, enjoying conversation and having Care Experts around her whom she feels comfortable with.
Her experience shows how the right support at home can help someone continue doing things for themselves while receiving assistance with the areas of everyday life that have become more difficult.
