Meet our team of care professionals

Kat Thomas
Director

After working overseas and seeing first hand the health care that was provided, when I moved back to the UK I had a drive to work in the health care industry and ensure that people were receiving the best care possible. Prior to starting with Bluebird care I worked in the Ambulance service, so saw the industry from a bigger perspective.

I joined Bluebird Care in 2011 as the Care Coordinator and progressed through the ranks to Care Manager. This drove my passion for top quality care delivery and enabled me to see the different roles within the team.  As the Director and owner of Bluebird Care Gosport, I firmly believe that what Bluebird Care stands for is exactly the type of quality care provision that I want to be associated with.

I judge myself daily by whether the service we provide would be good enough for one of my own family members.  I believe that a healthy and fulfilled lifestyle does not stop at the front door and I am passionate about enriching the community as a whole. We have a fantastic team of compassionate and caring staff who are dedicated to delivering the best care and support.

Katy Berry
Care Manager

I have always enjoyed working with people and after a volunteering trip in Africa, I returned knowing I wanted to work in the care sector. I have been working in independent living since 2016 as a support worker, coordinator and joined Bluebird Care Gosport as Customer Supervisor. I was in the role for a year and enjoyed spending my working day supporting the customers in whichever way that suited them whether it be collecting essentials for them or going over for a cuppa and a chat. With my new role as Deputy Manager, I can support the supervisors to enrich the lives of the customers within the business as well as ensuring that we are an employer of choice for the care assistants that work for us. I truly believe that a happy team is more productive and provide the best care and I look forward to keeping the morale within the team up and our mission statement followed.

Stephen Brown
Customer Supervisor

Having spent my earlier working years in the care sector starting out working with adults with learning difficulties supporting them to live as independently as possible and to be part of their community and volunteering with a local play scheme that ran during the holidays to support children with learning disabilities, I found that I had a passion for people and for helping them to get the most out of life.

I moved into a more corporate world for a lot of my working years in my mid 20’s working in various managerial roles looking for a new career and new challenges, though these gave me some brilliant life and learning skills I found it hard to settle and found I was not driven by profits and the goals of large corporations to endlessly make money. I took a step back, re analysed what made me happy and realised that it was working within the care sector.  Pre pandemic I decided to join domiciliary care, working within my local community as a carer, I felt like its where I belonged again and loved every day even the hard ones because its where I felt I made a difference to real people, this was cemented during the pandemic where it became clear care was a vital lifeline for many people who were isolated alone at home.

With a passion for delivering quality and real person-centred care I progressed into a coordinators role and enjoyed the challenges that came with working at a senior level where I was able to drive and be involved with ensuring high standards and morals were at the forefront of care. I have spent time working specifically with end-of-life care over the last year to better understand and broaden my own knowledge and understanding of the wider needs of people relying on care. Now I am excited to have joined Bluebird Care as a customer supervisor as it has an excellent reputation within the community and a real person-centred ethic that puts care and people’s welfare at the forefront which matches my ethic exactly.

Vicki Hanlon
Care Assistant Supervisor

I grew up in a village called West End outside of Southampton until I met my now husband Simon, I moved to Gosport age 19 and have been here ever since. I worked in retail for 10 years and then at 2 removal companies in the office for another 10 years. I felt I needed a change and looked into care work. By then I had lost most of my grandparents and missed chatting about the old days. I joined Bluebird Care almost 4 years ago now and have loved it ever since. Last year I progressed to senior carer and later last year I accepted the role of Care Assistant supervisor. I love getting out and meeting up with the carers for observations, supervisions or just to see how they are getting on as well as still getting to see our customers and covering care visits when needed. In my spare time I love to take my dog Bailey out on long walks and exploring new areas, when we are out I’m always taking photos. I love seeing my nephew and niece who live just up the road, meeting up friends and staying over my mum and stepdads over the Island when I can, watching TV and cooking up new recipes when I get a chance.

Karen Perkins-Cox
Coordinator

I worked many different roles at the start of my working career, from fundraising to body piercing and hairdressing, I couldn’t quite figure out what I wanted to do. Then six years ago I entered the care sector and I have not looked back. I started as a support worker in residential services and moved on to different companies as senior and team leader. I am now customer supervisor for Bluebird care and I could not be happier. I have lived in Gosport all my life and working for Bluebird care means that I get to support people in my local community to receive packages of care that enable them to live safely and independently in their own homes.
