According to the AF Association Atrial Fibrillation is the most common irregular heart rhythm. Current figures show over 1 million individuals across the UK are affected, however this figure does not account for those who are yet to be diagnosed.
AF Aware Week is about raising awareness of Atrial Fibrillation (AF). Organised by the AF Association, this year focuses on the four simple steps individuals can take to correct irregular heart rhythm and protect against AF related stokes.
The aims of AF Aware Week 2016 are simple:
- Detect - AF by a simple pulse check
- Protect - against AF-related stroke using anticoagulation therapy (not aspirin),
- Correct - the irregular rhythm with access to appropriate treatment
- Perfect - the patient care pathway
