Remaining Safe, Comfortable, and Independent at Home
Sue’s story is one of resilience, warmth, and the importance of staying where you feel safest — at home.
After suddenly becoming bedbound due to severe spinal problems, everyday life changed overnight. Tasks many people take for granted, like washing, dressing, preparing meals, and even moving comfortably, became impossible without support.
Alongside the physical pain came emotional challenges too. Sue described feeling upset and overwhelmed as her independence changed so quickly, while her family, living in France and Wales, worried because they couldn’t always be there beside her.
Wanting to remain in the home she loves was always Sue’s priority. After being recommended to Bluebird Care by someone she trusted completely, she began receiving support from a care team that immediately made her feel safe, comfortable, and cared for.
What started as practical support with personal care, meals, and companionship soon became so much more. Sue says the carers brought happiness back into her days, helping to lift her mood and giving her something to look forward to every day. Although bed bound, Sue is as independent as she can be with the support from Bluebird Care.
Although Sue knows her condition will not improve physically, the support she receives has transformed her quality of life. Her carers have helped her remain in the place she treasures most — her own home — while also bringing friendship, laughter, and reassurance into her life.
“Everybody is super”
Speaking about her care team, Sue says, “Everybody is super,” and describes her carers as “part of my family.” She especially credits Sandra and Mo for becoming such an important part of her journey, adding, “I’d be lost without Mo my carer.”
For Sue’s family, knowing she is safe, cared for, and surrounded by kindness has brought enormous peace of mind.
Four years on, Sue continues to enjoy the companionship and support of her care team every single day — proving that outstanding care is not just about helping with tasks, but about preserving dignity, happiness, and the comfort of home.
We love having Sue as a customer and we are so pleased that we can continue to support Sue’s wishes of remaining in her own home.
