Supporting Independence at Home With Pet Care

For many people, a pet is an important source of companionship and a much-loved part of everyday life. When mobility challenges made it increasingly difficult for one Bluebird Care customer to walk their dog regularly, some additional support helped them maintain this important routine.

When walking the dog became more difficult

The customer loved their dog but was finding it increasingly difficult to maintain regular walks because of mobility challenges.

This wasn't simply a practical concern. Their pet was an important companion and source of comfort, and they were worried that their dog wasn't getting enough exercise and stimulation.

Not being able to maintain the usual walking routine was beginning to affect the customer's wellbeing too.

Pet care built around their routine

Bluebird Care introduced a tailored pet walking support plan designed around the customer's circumstances.

This included regular scheduled dog walks, safe handling and companionship for their pet, flexible timings to fit around their routine, and ongoing communication and updates.

This meant the customer could have reassurance that their dog was still getting regular walks even when their own mobility made this more difficult.

More than walking the dog

The support also created opportunities for the customer to get out themselves.

On some occasions, the Care Expert took her own dog along too, and the customer was able to join them on outings. The original case study notes that this helped give the customer confidence.

It demonstrates how personalised care can consider the things that matter to someone beyond their immediate care needs – including the pets, routines and relationships that are an important part of their life.

Peace of mind for the customer

Knowing their dog was being looked after provided valuable reassurance.

The customer said:

I was so worried about my dog, but now I know he's in safe hands. It's such a relief, and he's so much happier after his walks.

For this customer, having some help with their dog's routine meant one less thing to worry about while allowing an important companion to remain part of everyday life at home.

Supporting the things that matter to you

Care at home isn't only about personal care or practical household tasks. Personalised support can also take into account the routines and responsibilities that matter to each individual.

For someone who has always cared for a pet, having difficulty with walking or mobility doesn't necessarily mean that relationship has to change.

The right support can provide a helping hand with some of those everyday responsibilities while respecting what's important to the individual.

Could you use a helping hand with everyday life?
