In May, we were pleased to welcome Gary from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), who delivered an informative and practical session on fire safety in the home. The session was designed to support our team in recognising potential risks and understanding how they can help customers stay safe in their own homes.

Gary shared a range of clear, easy-to-follow guidance, focusing on simple steps that can make a big difference in preventing fires and ensuring a safe response if one does occur. One of the key messages was the importance of having working smoke and heat alarms, ideally interlinked, so that if one alarm sounds, they all do. This can provide valuable extra time to react in an emergency.
Another important point highlighted was the need for a clear and well-understood escape plan. Knowing how to exit the home quickly and safely, and ensuring that this plan is regularly discussed and reviewed, can significantly improve safety and reduce panic in an emergency situation.

The session also raised awareness of the free Home Fire Safety Visit offered by SFRS. During these visits, trained staff assess fire risks within the home, provide tailored advice, and can check or install smoke alarms where required. This valuable service offers reassurance and practical support for those who may be more vulnerable.
We encourage our staff and wider community to make the most of this resource and help promote safer homes for everyone.
