Meet our team of care professionals

Karen Bratton
Care Supervisor

Karen started her career with Bluebird Care Cornwall North in  May 2012. She started as a Care Assistant doing domiciliary care. Karen used the opportunities provided by Bluebird Care Cornwall North to gain level 2 and level 3 NVQs in Health and Social Care. She has also gained dementia and end of life NVQs. Karen became a Care Supervisor for Wadebridge and surrounding areas in October 2020. She is currently working towards a level 5 diploma in health and Social Care.

Karen says she enjoys her role as she seeks to help people to remain in their own homes. 

Kelly Walker
Care Supervisor

I used to see my sister coming home from work really happy, She worked for Bluebird Care. I wanted to be as happy as that so I applied and was lucky enough to get the job. Bluebird have supported me in gaining my level 2 and level 3 NVQ’s in Health and Social Care. I was then able to apply and get the supervisor role. I really enjoy my role, it may have changed but I love that I am still helping people.

Sylvia Sayers
Director

Sylvia is passionate about providing high quality care in her local area.  Having  come from a teaching background,her experience of managing teams of people has helped her select and develop a committed team of office staff and care workers.  Sylvia is also keen to encourage personal development among her staff to ensure that they are well equipped to perform their duties.  She has been involved in providing care for family members and realise how important it is to have support provided by people who genuinely care, and who are professional and well trained.  This was her motivation for setting up Bluebird Care Cornwall North.

Outside of working hours she is involved in her local church, and enjoys entertaining family and friends. Sylvia likes to cook, sew and plays piano.

Mark Sayers
Director

Mark has been involved with education for just under 30 years. He has a Masters Degree in Professional Development as well as a Bachelor of  Philosophy (honours) and a Bachelor of  Education degree. He has vast management experience, including being a deputy head and a senior teacher. His knowledge of doing school timetables have stood him in good stead for overseeing the weekly roster of care visits. The roster is a key element in the day to day running of Bluebird Care Cornwall North and hence Mark strives to ensure the planning behind it is as good as it possibly can be.

He has a quiet, caring personality and is quite unflappable when the 'pressure is on'

Mark is a leader in his local church and has been to Romania to do voluntary work..  Mark enjoys hill walking, cycling and is a keen rugby follower and guitar player.  .

Laura Burnage
Registered Manager

Laura started her career in the care sector in 2014 when her grandad spent his last days in a hospice. She was really inspired by the staff and from that moment Laura wanted to make a difference in people’s lives.

 


Laura began by doing waking nights in a care home to gain experience and knowledge and it suited her young family at the time. 

 


She became a Care Assistant for Bluebird Care Cornwall North in 2017 and then progressed to a Care Supervisor in 2019. From that role she became the assistant manager in 2022.  Laura is now the Registered Manager.
Laura says:

I love my job role as a Registered Care Manager and could not imagine doing anything else. I love knowing that I can provide good quality and safe care for all our customers. I also enjoy managing and supporting the great team of people I have around me

Sarah May
Lead Care Coordinator

Since leaving Sir James Smith School in Camelford in 2012, Sarah has attended Truro College and achieved a qualification in Health and Social Care Level 3. She then went to Cornwall College to study for a Level 2 Diploma in Business Admin as part of an Apprenticeship in Office Administration. 

She joined Bluebird Care Cornwall North in August 2014 as an office administrator and realising that she had a flair for rostering she joined the coordinator team in September 2015. She is responsible for the day to day smooth running of the roster.
