Our Bluebird Care Cornwall North team recently spent a wonderful afternoon at Berries Community Cafe, joining its weekly Craft for Wellbeing group and offering free wellbeing checks to members of the local community.
Paula, one of our Care Assistants, joined us for the afternoon as we chatted with attendees and carried out a range of simple checks, including blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature and blood oxygen levels.
The results were entered into the National Early Warning Score app, which provided each person with the outcome of their wellbeing check. No personal information was collected, meaning the process remained completely anonymous.
A Special Welcome from Gwen
One of the highlights of the afternoon was meeting Gwen, a wonderful 99-year-old lady with fabulous pink hair who attends the Craft for Wellbeing group every week.
Gwen keeps herself busy by taking part in different creative activities and making thoughtful handmade gifts. She creates small pouches to give to people attending the group for the first time, helping every newcomer feel welcome from the moment they arrive.
Gwen kindly presented both Paula and me with one of her handmade welcome pouches. It was a thoughtful gesture and a lovely reminder of the kindness and sense of community shared by everyone at the group.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Julie, who was happy to have her photograph taken and shared alongside the memories from the afternoon.
Supporting Wellbeing in Our Community
We spent a couple of hours talking with attendees, learning more about the group and enjoying the relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Events like this are an important opportunity to bring people together, encourage social connection and make conversations about health and wellbeing feel more accessible.
At Bluebird Care Cornwall North, we believe that good care extends beyond practical support. It is also about helping people remain connected to their communities, continue doing the things they enjoy and feel valued as individuals.
We would like to thank Gwen, Julie and everyone at the Craft for Wellbeing group for making us feel so welcome. A special thank you also goes to Berries Community Cafe for inviting us to be part of such a warm, creative and community-focused afternoon.
We look forward to returning and supporting more local events across Cornwall North in the future.
