As our guests began to arrive at Langham Hall, our Director, Melvyn, was stationed at the entrance ready to welcome everyone with special envelopes. Inside were treats, vouchers for the ice cream van, and the highly anticipated BBQ tickets for smoked pulled pork, brisket, wings, and mac & cheese.
The weather was perfectly sunny and mild, meaning a fantastic afternoon of outdoor activities was firmly on the cards.
Our attendees were greeted by an action-packed lineup, including bouncy castles, a hoop toss, mega darts, giant Connect 4, face painting, a penalty shootout, and traditional summer fete races!
It was wonderful to see so many of our customers, Care Experts, and their families in attendance. Watching the children socialize, tear around the field, and bounce energetically on the castles with their painted faces was an absolute joy. We even had a surprise guest—a bearded dragon! Some of us weren't entirely sure it was real until it started moving.
Once the food was ready, the atmosphere buzzed as eager queues formed for the slow-cooked meats fresh from the smokers. While waiting, some of the younger guests took the opportunity to show off their dance moves in front of the DJ to work up an appetite. The food was exceptional, and we were so grateful for all the wonderful compliments it received!
In between bites, our MC for the day kicked off the traditional fete races. The sack and egg-and-spoon races were hilarious, featuring over-enthusiastic competitors of all ages, dramatic tumbles, finish-line capitulations, and definitely some suspicious tactics during the egg-and-spoon!
The entertainment continued with our balloon wizard extraordinaire, who could fashion just about anything—though most children opted for swords for a good old-fashioned fencing match. He later hosted a fantastic children's show that sparked a massive conga line around the village hall.
And let’s not forget the arrival of an Avenger! Spiderman swung by to shoot webs, perform stunts, and entertain the kids and adults alike. (He also gained quite a few admirers from our care team who keenly noted his superhero physique! You know who you are!)
After burning off all that energy, the only logical next step was a trip to the ice cream van. These were some truly mega ice creams that proved a challenge for even our biggest dessert fans to finish! But it did give them that final bit of energy needed for a penalty shoot out where teams lined up against each other to take on our goalies, who we must say were in great goal saving form!
Oh and WE ALMOST FORGOT!!!!
Congratulations to the girls who beat the men in tug of war, not once but twice!!!!!!
A special mention must got to the local ambulance service. Their wonderful team set up a stall to teach CPR on dummies, equipping everyone with an invaluable and potentially life-saving skillset.
Looking back, we were completely taken aback watching our customers, office team, Care Experts, and all their families interact, laugh, and have fun together. It meant the world to us and served as a beautiful reminder of how lucky we are to have such a wonderful community.
