Meet our carer Ella who has been with us for 10 years!

Ella joined Bluebird Care 10 years ago and is currently our longest serving member of the care team.  When chatting with Ella we asked her what she enjoyed about the role and what had made her stay with the team for all this time. Read through to find out about Ella's care journey......

Ella worked in a children's nursery before joining Bluebird Care but found it very paperwork based and Ella really wanted to be more hands on.  She spotted a job advert in the paper and took the chance and applied.  Initially she was concerned that she would not be able to work with adults as she had only wokred with the younger age group.  Ella was apprehensive which is understandable, however with the support from the management team she was able to overcome this.  She was also concerned about using potential equipment in order to help people mobilise, but again with the right training, she gained confidence.

The part of her training she enjoyed the most was the shadowing, where she went out with an experienced carer after all her classroom based learning, and saw it in practice with the customers we support.  After her shadowing she felt ready and confident to deliver care on her own.

Ella has found that over the years, having a flexible rota has enabled her to fit work around her own family life. With the flexibility of the work and having the support from the management team, Ella has been able to manage her work life balance.

When we asked Ella what she enjoyed the most about the role she said:

"I love making a difference and putting a smile on someone's face once I have delivered their care.  I think that being a carer gives you the opportunity to alleviate someone's loneliness as we are able to provide that company and become a friend to them also.  I have been delivering care with the same customer's for a number of years and really enjoy getting to know them and their families. Chatting with the customers really is a big part of the job.

Ella gave a little advice for anyone thinking about joining the social care workforce:

I think if you were considering working in care you should do it, be open minded, listen to the customers and give them the support they need.  It is the little things that matter like making them a cup of tea how they like it or warming their towel on the radiator.  I love my job and plan to continue making people smile.

Thank you to Simon, Rebecca and the Bluebird Care team for all the support I have received throughout my time. I look forward to the next 10 years!

Ella clearly enjoys her role and it brings her a real sense of purpose and pride.  We presented Ella with her long service award, badge, card and a few other goodies to celebrate!
