Cardiff homecare provider donates funding to support ‘keep fit’ classes for the elderly

Fitness classes in Llandaff are set to restart at Elderfit this Spring, thanks to funding provided by Bluebird Care.

Bluebird Care’s Cardiff North branch is donating money to enable the relaunch of classes for older people, emphasising strength, balance and mobility. The funding will cover the costs of venue hire and an instructor for a 20-week programme of classes planned to begin in April/May.

Elderfit was founded by friends Tom and Gareth, who between them have over 30 year’s experience in the fitness industry and run the OTAGO programme developed to both prevent and improve recovery from falls.

Gareth said:

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the very generous donation from Bluebird Care. Their support enables us to provide keep fit classes for older people living in our area. Our class participants' age ranges from 50-to-100 year olds, and the sessions bring people together from all walks of life.

As well as physical wellbeing, regular exercise is also good for our mental and emotional health too, and we find that this opportunity to socialise is seen as being equally valuable by everyone who attends”

Chris Binstead is the Operations Manager at Bluebird Care Cardiff North. He added:

“Well done to Gareth, Tom and the team, for providing a fun and physically enduring activity, that gives older people the opportunity to stay healthy and active.

Bluebird Care is pleased to be sponsoring a 20 week programme. Good luck to everyone taking part!”
