Bluebird Care Camden & Hampstead supports Rare Disease Day 2020
The aim of the day is to raise awareness of rare diseases, their impact on people’s lives and the need for further investment in medical research.
Bluebird Care Camden & Hampstead is supporting Rare Disease Day on Saturday 29th February. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of rare diseases, their impact on people’s lives and the need for further investment in medical research.
A rare disease is any disorder which affects a small minority of the population. These diseases have devastating effects on people and their families, with most rare diseases having no cures and can exist for years, undiagnosed.
This year’s theme is ‘Rare is many. Rare is strong. Rare is proud.” The theme highlights the fact that there are over 300 million people across the world who have a rare disease. In fact, it is likely that you may know someone who has been affected. The day aims to raise awareness that people living with a rare disease often do not have access to diagnosis, treatment, care and social opportunities. It is important to show support to the rare disease community and advocate for equity and equal opportunities.
George Morris, Director of Bluebird Care Camden & Hampstead, commented:
“We at Bluebird Care feel strongly about the need to recognise Rare Disease Day. We must raise awareness about rare diseases as 5% of the world’s population is affected by a rare disease. 1 in 20 people will develop a rare disease at some point in their life.
We need to take a step towards understanding what rare diseases are and how we could help improve people’s lives.”
