Losing both hearing and sight creates specific needs that without support the person can feel vulnerable and isolated. Deafblind UK aims to give the right support so that deafblind people can live healthier, more enjoyable and dignified lives.

Deafblindness is a very unique disability with a growing number of people being affected every year across the UK. It can range from some residual sight and hearing to profound loss. People with profound loss rely on touch to communicate. There are four categories of the disability, although not all people will fit into these:
  • Born deafblind
  • Born deaf and then later lose vision
  • Born blind and then later lose hearing

We are proud to be promoting Deafblind Awareness Week this June and bringing much needed attention to the work carried out by the charity. We hope that by promoting this campaign we will help people in our area get the support they need.
