Last week, in Halifax, the husband of the late Dame Barbara Windsor, Scott Mitchell, spoke about his wife's battle with Alzheimer's and how they coped as a couple.

The event has hosted by Calderdale Dementia Friendly Community in Halifax Town Hall and for them it was an important awareness-raising opportunity.

In front of a large audience of health care professionals, businesses, voluntary groups, council staff and local politicians, the husband of the late Dame Barbara Windsor, Scott Mitchell, who is an Ambassador for Alzheimer’s Research UK, spoke about his wife's battle with Alzheimer's and how they coped as a couple.

Bluebird Care Calderdale supported the event, which was introduced by their CEO Shabir Hussain.

Scott Mitchell spoke at length about the couple's relationship and the effects of Alzheimer's on Barbara and their life together, during an interview conducted by local MP, Holly Lynch, before attendees were invited to take part in a question and answer session with him.

Calderdale Dementia Friendly Community recorded a short interview of their own with Scott, after the main event, in which he spoke about the need to raise awareness of Alzheimer's and dementia and how both individuals and organisations can become more dementia-aware.
