The last 22 months of Covid – 19 has changed the way people consider their careers, and it has undoubtedly created some issues for recruitment in the Health & Social Care sector.

Now job applicants are taking more time to consider the support their potential employer will provide them.

So, what has Bluebird Care Bristol been doing to support their current team and encourage others to join their team?

The simple answer is: Providing opportunities for their Care Workers to develop their skills, progress their careers, and promote wellbeing.

Claire Nolan, one of the two Registered Managers for Bluebird Care Bristol, provides consistent support for Care Workers who wish to obtain a Diploma in Health & Social Care.

Explaining the reason she encourages and supports the Bluebird Care Bristol team with their Diplomas, Claire said:

“We believe that knowledge is key to our Care Workers being able to provide our customers with the high standards of care of which we pride ourselves. Our Care Workers put their all into our customers, so it absolutely makes sense to provide them with the learning opportunities they deserve and work so hard for.”

Bluebird Care Bristol’s Lead Care Supervisor Levi is one of the many members of the team to take up the opportunity to complete her Diploma.

Levi began her journey in the care sector in 2012 and over the years has been encouraged and supported by Claire to gain her Level 2, 3 and most recently her Level 4 Diploma in Health & Social Care.  Based on this she has been promoted from Care Supervisor to Lead Care Supervisor.

Touching on her progression, Levi expressed her gratitude for Claire’s support:

Bluebird Care Bristol has inspired me to build the foundations for my future. The qualifications I have achieved have given me more skill and opportunity, and I've felt incredibly supported by manager Claire along the way."

As well as the Diplomas, the Bluebird Care Bristol team are supporting their team in other ways. This includes but is not limited to having an onsite Mental Health First Aider, birthday days off, distance learning courses, and a dedicated mentor to support new team members through their shadowing.
