Thinking of switching to a career in care?

I needed a career change after 40 years in administration. I had no idea what kind of an alternative career would suit me. One Monday in spring I searched for jobs and up came an advert for Bluebird Care: 'the little blue cars that zip around town' I thought. A couple of colleagues had recently gone into this sector of jobs and were happy with their choice. I completed the application form at 9am and within 5 minutes of sending it, I received a phone call with an invitation to come to the office later that day to find out more about the job. By the time I left the office, I was excited about a new career in caring. 

Since that day I have completed probation and was awarded the Care Certificate. I absolutely love the job of meeting customers with a variety of needs, be it assistance with cooking, cleaning, personal care, moving about, taking medication, preparing food or housekeeping, as well as the ever-present conversation make it all worthwhile. Included in the job are long hours and quite a lot of driving, and the satisfaction that you are assisting somebody is far outweighed by the positive aspects of the job. 

Preserving the customers' independent living with dignity and respect and a good dose of humour for as long as possible is giving me a real buzz.
