David's story: living well with Parkinson’s
David's story
Born in 1940 in Lusaka, Zambia, and raised in Zimbabwe, David has always been curious about the world. From boarding school in Canterbury to studying Engineering at Queen’s University of Belfast, his love of travel and mountaineering shaped his life.
That adventurous spirit still fills his home, with his artwork, travel photos, and fond reminders of his late wife, whom he was married to for nearly 30 years and still speaks of with great affection.
After a long career with IBM and in consultancy, David now enjoys art, yoga, and time with his neighbours.
When changes in his mobility and medication made daily life more challenging, Bluebird Care stepped in with personalised support at home, helping him manage routines, medication, and stay connected to his local community.

Understanding his needs
When David was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, his family felt unsure where to begin. Between managing medication, attending appointments, and adapting to changes in his mobility, everything quickly became overwhelming. They were eager to support him, but balancing the practical demands alongside work and family life grew increasingly challenging.
A family friend recommended Bluebird Care, and from the first visit, the difference was clear. David’s care team brings warmth, humour, and genuine respect, treating him as an individual with a lifetime of experiences and stories to share, and not just someone in need of support.
Having our team in place gives the whole family peace of mind. David is able to maintain his independence and continue enjoying the things he loves, while his family feels reassured knowing he is safe, supported, and living the life he wants in the comfort of his own home.
Life with Bluebird Care
Since Bluebird Care started supporting him, David’s routine has been calmer and more consistent. His medication is on track, his social life is back, and his confidence has returned. Most importantly, he feels seen and understood, and we have helped bridge that gap by keeping him connected to his world and his passions, helping him never to feel isolated.
Our team visits every day to support David with his daily routine, from medication administration to preparing meals, giving his family peace of mind that everything is managed professionally. David enjoys seeing his regular carers, who have built a strong, positive relationship with him.
His carers also accompany him to a weekly Parkinson’s club, book club and art group where David can laugh, move, and feel like himself again.
On quieter days, carers take time to engage David in conversation about his interests, including travel, engineering, and audiobooks, while also coordinating appointments such as dental and barber visits to ensure nothing is overlooked.
Through this personalised support, Bluebird Care brings care at home to life, enabling David to remain independent, connected, safe, and comfortable in the home he knows and loves.
David’s story shows the impact of truly person-centred care. With consistent support, he’s been able to live independently and continue doing the things he enjoys.
The team’s dedication has made a real difference to David’s wellbeing and his family’s peace of mind, and we’re proud to support him in living life his way.
