Belmira Da Silva Lopes, has been revealed as a shortlisted candidate for the ‘Newcomer’ category in this year’s Excellence in Care Awards by the West Midlands Care Association.

Belmira Da Silva Lopes, a Care Assistant at Bluebird Care Birmingham East and North, has been revealed as a shortlisted candidate for the ‘Newcomer’ category in this year’s Excellence in Care Awards by the West Midlands Care Association.

Belmira received the commendation in recognition of the incredible work she has done over the past year for the customers in her care, and the role she has played as part of the Bluebird Care team during this challenging period.

Prior to joining, the Newcomer nominee worked as a Lunch Assistant in a local school. However, as a consequence of the pandemic and subsequent lockdown and closure of schools that ensued, she decided to take up the role as Care Assistant.

Yet, despite never working in care professionally prior to joining, she quickly developed into her role. Belmira not only utilised her previous personal experience, but she brought along an abundance of empathy, kindness and understanding to her position. She has been recognised by many for always going above and beyond for her customers, with the ambition of providing the highest possible care she can.

On countless occasions, Belmira has given incredible support and comfort to customers and families, especially during the hardest of times. Alongside her exceptional efforts for customers and their loved ones, her hard work over this year has also extended to her team.

During her time at Bluebird Care Birmingham East and North, Belmira has also won “Gem of the Month” twice during 2021, an award given to team members who have been outstanding during a monthly period.

Suresh Dakshinamurthy, Director of Bluebird Care Birmingham East & North, said of Belmira’s shortlisting:

“Belmira has been an exceptional addition to our team. Not only does she put her heart and soul into everything she does, but she is always helpful during those times of emergency, particularly during this past year. Whether it be another team member off sick, or a rota issue, she always steps up to support everybody.”

Speaking of her shortlisting for the ‘Newcomer’ award, Belmira said:

“I love my job as a care assistant. It’s so nice to see the elders smile and to listen to their stories. It makes me extremely happy that I am making a difference to them and their lives. It is certainly a very rewarding job. It brings me great satisfaction that during the day I can again look after young children in my role as a dinner lady, then in the evening care for the elderly.”
