Bluebird Care’s National Covid-Hero Award - Finalist

Lead Care Assistant Nassrat Bi from Birmingham Branch Shortlisted for Bluebird Care’s National Covid-Hero Award for Supporting Customers Throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic

Nassrat Bi is a Care Assistant at Bluebird Care East Birmingham; she has worked relentlessly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic to support her customers.

Bluebird Care has a franchise network of over 200 businesses, and each year they would usually host their own annual Bluebird Care Awards. However, in light of Covid-19 and the immense bravery, heroism and effort shown by all team members during such unprecedented times, Bluebird Care wanted to organise something special. They therefore introduced the Bluebird Care Covid Heroes Awards 2020.

The initiative was designed to reward members of Bluebird Care teams who have worked to exceptional standards throughout the Covid-19 pandemic - acknowledging those who have gone above and beyond to weather the crisis and support both their customers and the other members of their teams. Nassrat was shortlisted in the top 15 entrants from across all Bluebird Care franchises.

Nassrat has worked for Bluebird Care for almost three years, prior to this she had no experience working in the care industry. Nassrat has risen to the challenges that Covid-19 presented, ensuring her customers were kept safe and were well-cared for. Nassrat very sadly lost her Father to Covid-19, she took the time off she needed and continued to work hard to protect her customers.

One of the customers that Nassrat cared for was a man with terminal cancer. She supported him and his family as his health deteriorated and was there for him when he passed away.  The family of the customer showed their appreciation by sending Nassrat a bouquet of flowers with a thank you note for all of her kindness and hard work.

Nassrat also cared for a Bluebird Care customer with dementia, who had been deteriorating significantly over the last 12 months. Nassrat built a very good relationship with the client and was one of the few carers that managed to gain her trust, and always found a way of reassuring her and calming her down. For safety reasons, the family would observe her mum on a camera during the night and would comment on how kind Nassrat was, even when her mum was lashing out.

In recent weeks, Bluebird Care provided end-of-life care for the client. Nassrat was one of the lead Care Assistants that showed total commitment to ensuring that the lady was comfortable and well cared for.

Nassrat has already been recognised by several other awards, she won the prestigious ‘Individual Home Care Hero’ award at the Home Care Heroes Awards 2020. She was also a finalist in the Great British Care Awards 2020 and is currently shortlisted for the 2020 Dame Barbara Windsor Awards.

Suresh Dakshinamurthy, Director of Bluebird Care Birmingham East, said:

“We are so proud of Nassrat for being shortlisted at the Bluebird Care Covid Heroes Awards. Her hard work never goes unnoticed and she is a credit to all the team here at Bluebird Care Birmingham East. Congratulations Nassrat – you truly are a hero.”

Nassrat received a Trophy, Certificate and Thankyou Card and a Gift Voucher.
