Building Understanding Through the Virtual Dementia Tour

At Bluebird Care Barking & Dagenham, we are committed to continually developing our team’s knowledge and skills to provide the highest quality care to our customers.

Our carers recently had the opportunity to take part in the Virtual Dementia Tour, an immersive training experience designed to help participants gain a deeper understanding of what it may feel like to live with dementia.

The experience simulated some of the physical, sensory and cognitive challenges that people living with dementia may encounter in their daily lives. By stepping into the shoes of those living with dementia, our carers gained valuable insight into how everyday tasks can become more difficult and how these experiences can affect a person’s confidence, communication and independence.

The training reinforced the importance of empathy, patience and person-centred care. It encouraged our team to reflect on how small changes in communication, the environment and the way support is provided can make a meaningful difference to the wellbeing of those we care for.

Our team found the experience both informative and thought-provoking, providing a greater appreciation of the challenges many individuals and their families face every day. The knowledge gained will continue to support our carers in delivering compassionate, respectful and high-quality dementia care within our community.
