A Message from Our Director, Jane Perry
“Taking the Plunge for a Cause Close to My Heart”
At Bluebird Care Edinburgh, we’ve always believed in going the extra mile for the people we care for—and sometimes, that means taking things to new heights! This month, I did just that with a tandem skydive from 10,000 feet to raise funds for Alzheimer Scotland.
I’ve always had a bit of a daredevil streak — maybe that’s what gave me the courage to launch Bluebird Care Edinburgh back in 2007, right in the middle of a recession! But nothing compares to the thrill of freefalling at 120mph for 30 seconds before the parachute opened and I floated over the stunning Fife countryside. They say skydiving is one of the most liberating experiences—and I couldn’t agree more. The moment I landed, I was already thinking, “When can I do that again?” I even captured the whole adventure on video to prove to my granddaughters that I really did it!
But this wasn’t just about ticking something off my bucket list. Dementia is a cause that’s very close to my heart. Over the years working in care, I’ve seen the impact it has on individuals and families every single day. When John’s brother was diagnosed, it hit us hard. And when my own uncle was diagnosed at just 66, it brought the reality even closer to home. We were fortunate to have our amazing Bluebird Care team support him until he was hospitalised during the pandemic and sadly passed away.
These experiences have made our partnership with Alzheimer Scotland deeply personal to me. In 2024, our wider Bluebird Care network raised over £50,000 for the charity, and we’re proud to keep that momentum going into 2025 and beyond.
I’m thrilled to share that my skydive raised an incredible £3,515 in support of Alzheimer Scotland. Every penny helps fund vital research and provides essential support for people living with dementia.
Thank you so much — it truly means the world.
