The awards ceremony took place on Friday 16 May 2025 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, bringing together more than 300 guests for an evening dedicated to recognising excellence in care. Hosted by Michelle McManus and Dr Donald Macaskill, CEO of Scottish Care, the event highlighted the dedication, innovation, and compassion of individuals and organisations across Scotland. Jane’s award came as a surprise on the night, making the recognition even more special.
Jane’s journey into the care sector began over 20 years ago when she was searching for support for her grandmother in Glasgow. Faced with a lack of choice, transparency, and basic customer service, she was driven to ask an important question: “There must be a better alternative than this?” That moment marked the beginning of a career dedicated to improving care standards.
In 2008, Jane and her husband John opened their first Bluebird Care franchise in Edinburgh. From the outset, Jane was committed to delivering a level of care her own grandmother would have been proud of — rooted in dignity, professionalism, and compassion. Over the years, this vision has shaped a service known not only for its high standards of care, but also for its focus on staff engagement and support.
As a passionate employer, Jane consistently champions fair pay, respect, and recognition for her team. She has also prioritised strong partnerships with health and social care providers, ensuring a collaborative approach that benefits both staff and the people they support.
Beyond her work within Bluebird Care, Jane plays an active role in the wider care community. She currently serves as a Trustee on the Scottish Care Executive Committee, contributing her insight and experience to national conversations shaping the future of social care in Scotland.
Her dedication extends even further. In a recent fundraising effort, Jane took on a skydive from 10,000 feet, raising over £3,000 for Alzheimer Scotland. Whether through initiatives like this, her positive leadership style, or her commitment to continuous improvement, Jane continues to inspire those around her.
Commenting on the awards, Dr Donald Macaskill said:
“The homecare and housing support sector is vital to the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across Scotland. These awards are a celebration of the dedication, compassion, and innovation that characterise the people who deliver care every day. We are proud to recognise their invaluable contributions.”
Now in its 19th year, the Scottish Care Awards recognise the remarkable individuals, teams, and services delivering care and support in people’s homes and communities. With nominations coming from colleagues, families, care providers, and those receiving care, the awards stand as a meaningful celebration of the people who make a difference every day.
Jane Perry’s recognition is a testament to her unwavering commitment to raising standards and improving lives within the homecare sector.
