People across Aylesbury now have the opportunity to learn more about dementia, thanks to a new programme of free Dementia Awareness Workshops from Bluebird Care.
The award-winning home care provider is bringing its workshops to community groups and organisations across Aylesbury, helping local residents better understand dementia, recognise its impact and learn how they can support people living with the condition.
George Morris, Director of Bluebird Care Aylesbury, said: "One in four people will be affected by dementia during their lifetime, which is why it's so important that we work with individuals, families and the wider community to make life easier for those living with the condition.
"Recent recommendations have highlighted the importance of continuing to raise awareness of dementia and creating more dementia-friendly communities.
"Through the specialist services we provide at Bluebird Care, we're determined to play our part by delivering these Dementia Awareness Workshops across Aylesbury."
Bluebird Care supports families throughout Aylesbury with specialist dementia care and is passionate about helping create communities where people living with dementia feel understood, included and supported.
The workshops are based on the principles of the Alzheimer's Society's Dementia Friends initiative, encouraging people to better understand dementia while helping to reduce stigma and improve inclusion.
By increasing awareness across Aylesbury, Bluebird Care hopes to inspire more residents, businesses and community organisations to become dementia-friendly and support those living with the condition.
George added: "The Bluebird Care team wants to meet as many people as possible and raise awareness of dementia, its effects and how, as a community, we can all better support people living with it."
Dementia in the UK
Around 900,000 people in the UK are currently living with dementia.
This figure is expected to reach 2 million by 2050.
Approximately 225,000 people develop dementia each year – around one person every three minutes.
One in six people aged over 80 is living with dementia.
Around 70% of care home residents have dementia or severe memory problems.
More than 40,000 people under 65 are living with dementia.
Over 25,000 people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities are affected.
