Alzheimer's disease care

Alzheimer’s is a progressive condition that may cause a loved one to need extra help and care. At Bluebird Care, we believe in and see the benefits of allowing someone with Alzheimer’s to remain in their own home. That’s why we offer specialised and tailored Alzheimer’s care, to enable individuals to stay in familiar surroundings and support their overall wellbeing.

We provide additional assistance with physical, behavioural, and emotional needs. Our highly trained carers operate a person-centred view of Alzheimer’s and dementia, ensuring our customers maintain or improve their quality of life and offering great peace of mind for their families.

Alzheimer’s Home Care

At Bluebird Care, we offer a range of services to support people living with Alzheimer’s, allowing those individuals to remain as independent as possible. We believe in working in partnership with the customer, their family and other care professionals to provide personalised Alzheimer’s support and care.

One of our dedicated teams will arrange a visit with the individual to create a unique care and support plan with your loved one at the centre. As each person is affected differently, the plan will be tailored to support the individual, aiming to meet their specific goals and aspirations.

Our professional staff will develop a relationship with the individual who requires care and support, as well as the wider support network. This allows our carers to better understand the priorities and requirements of the individual. We find out about how our customers and their families like to communicate, and how frequently. This is so everyone involved is aware of the care and support being provided, as well as the progress and well-being of the individual.

The open lines of communication we have with the individual and their support network provide us with a deeper understanding of their behaviour and the ways we can support them in feeling good about themselves.

What is Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia and according to the Alzheimer’s Society, more than 52,000 people have have dementia caused by Alzheimer’s.

Although the greatest known risk factor of Alzheimer’s disease is increasing age, it is not a normal part of ageing. Commonly, people with Alzheimer’s are 65 and older. If someone younger than 65 has Alzheimer’s, then it is considered to be younger-onset Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease, which means symptoms will gradually worsen over time. The disease has no cure, but symptoms can be managed with tailored Alzheimer’s care and support. Today, there is a worldwide effort underway to find better ways to treat the disease.

Alzheimer’s Symptoms

Symptoms of Alzheimer’s are generally mild to start with, but it’s important to note that symptoms vary from person to person.

For most individuals, the first signs of Alzheimer’s are usually minor memory problems. This could include forgetting the names of people or objects or being involved in a recent conversation.

As the condition progresses, further symptoms can develop including:

  • Problems with speech and language.

  • Problems with movement.

  • Difficulty planning or making decisions.

  • Personality changes.

  • Loss of confidence.

  • Low mood or anxiety.

  • Hallucinations and delusions.

The Importance of Alzheimer’s Support in the Home

Alzheimer’s disease causes damage in the brain and affects multiple functions. In the early stages, an individual’s memory will be affected, as well as their mood. They may become depressed or anxious and may lose interest in talking to people or in hobbies.

Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s as symptoms worsen can be challenging and stressful for both the individual and anyone caring for them. With the right support, individuals and their families can ensure that the needs and requirements of the person living with Alzheimer’s are met.

Through our Alzheimer’s care, we provide tailored support to help customers to help manage symptoms. Our compassionate and dedicated Alzheimer’s support workers will work with individuals to create scrapbooks and memory books to help stimulate memories.

If you’re caring for someone with Alzheimer’s and feel you require additional support, you can rest assured that our carers are on-hand to reassure, prompt and assist. We provide tailored Alzheimer’s care at home that is warm, friendly and full of enthusiasm. We treat our customers like family and we want to make a positive difference in their lives.
