Fiona Williams, Director of Operations, talks to The Guardian about raising the profile of care work.

We are on a mission to improve training and get homecare workers the credit they deserve.

Fiona Williams, director of operations at Bluebird Care, was recently interviewed by The Guardian on Bluebird Care's beliefs regarding training and the importance of a clear career pathway for people working in the care sector. Fiona commented:

"I really want care work to be seen as a profession in line with teaching and nursing, because it’s a really challenging job role, and I don’t think it sometimes gets the credit it deserves. We do 20,000 care visits a day, and we could have 19,999 great care visits, and that doesn’t get recognised. It would be the one [where] there was an issue that does.”

With the social care sector needing to fill one million extra jobs by 2025, on top of the current 1.6 million, recruitment and retention is vital. Fiona is determined that care workers should be recognised for the quality of care they provide.

"As a business we want to celebrate all the good stuff, and celebrate how well care workers do out there in the community every day.”
