Bluebird Care Newport help local school achieve dementia friendly school status

Over the last 18 months director of Bluebird Care Newport, Ray Morrison has been working with one of his local high schools, helping them achieve dementia friendly school status.
Over the last 18 months director of Bluebird Care Newport, Ray Morrison has been working with one of his local high schools, helping them achieve dementia friendly school status.This is an excellent achievement for Ray and his Bluebird Care business, it is great to see more communities working together to raise awareness of dementia. Ray Morrison is also part of Newport city council’s dementia strategy team, a group that is working towards making Newport a dementia friendly city. As well as running dementia information sessions for all of the Newport Fire & Rescue Service stations in South Wales.
Commenting on working with St Joseph’s RC High School, Ray Morrison said:
As a dementia friends champion and volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Society I've run information sessions for quite a few businesses, but my son who is a pupil in year 8 at St Joseph’s, came up with the idea of working with the school because, as he pointed out, children and young people are the carers of the future.
When I approached the school they were hugely supportive. It's been really rewarding to work with all of the staff & pupils and I'm very proud to have helped create the first dementia friendly high school in Wales.
Ray Morrison has also run similar sessions for all of the Newport Fire & Rescue Service stations in South Wales and is part of the Newport city council’s dementia strategy team.
