What we do
Our first inspection by CSCI (now CQC) in 2008 highlighted the quality of care that the company provides when we were given the highest possible award at a first inspection; a "Good" rating. Since then our reputation has grown as a provider of the very highest standards of care providing a reliable, flexible and thoroughly professional service to all our customers.Bluebird Care (Newbury) successfully gained its registration in November 2007 and started to provide care at home to its first customers later that month. Since then we have gained accreditation with West Berkshire District Council to deliver care to older people, people with a learning difficulty and people with a physical disability. We are now one of the biggest domiciliary care providers in our local area and employ over 100 people.
Our latest CQC inspection was carried out in May 2013 and highlighted the company’s quality approach to delivering care:
The care staff are absolutely excellent. The office staff are really helpful too.
"The service is very organised and responsive to requests for information.”
We care for people with a wide range of dependency; some needing just one visit per week to those that have much more intensive requirements who we visit five or more times per day. Whatever your needs and wherever you live in West Berkshire call us on 01635 36953 for help and advice on how to access the most appropriate domiciliary care service for you.
A large percentage of our customers fund their own care, but whether the service we provide is self-funded, funded by a relative, a personal or individual budget or directly by the local council or local health trust; the quality is of the same consistent high standard.
We deliver care to older people, people with a learning difficulty and people with a physical disability and specialise in:
- Dementia care
- Palliative (end of life) care
- Parkinson’s care
- Stoma care
- Enablement and reablement services
- Respite care
- Live In care
The Support with Confidence Scheme for Adult Social Care
The Support with Confidence scheme provides a list of Domiciliary Care providers who have been successfully approved and have undergone rigorous background checks. It is designed to give service users or their representatives the reassurance that these providers only employ Care Workers who are properly trained for their work and who have up to date criminal record checks and clearance.
In addition to being fully compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements, these providers also agree to deliver their care services according to a mandatory code of conduct.
The scheme is joint Trading Standards and Adult Social Care initiative that is growing nationally.
Bluebird Care (Newbury) has recently received a Support with Confidence Award from West Berkshire Council Trading Standards and Adult Services department in recognition of it meeting the stringent accreditation criteria.
Bluebird Care (Newbury) is only one of a handful of Domiciliary Care providers within West Berkshire and Hampshire who have successfully achieved the Support with Confidence award.

We have been working in partnership with local training provider, Total Eclipse Solutions and are now providing a range of accredited Health and Social Care qualifications to our team of over 100 Care Workers.
This ensures that all of our staff have the knowledge and skills to deliver high quality care, particularly to those customers who have specific conditions like Dementia or Parkinson’s disease. This training complements and builds on the extensive induction training all new Care Workers receive before starting work for us.
On Tuesday 12th March, our staff who recently achieved their qualifications were invited to attend an awards ceremony at West Berkshire Council Chambers where Councillor Joe Mooney, Portfolio holder for Community Care services, presented them with their awards. These included Health and Social Care Diplomas at level 2 and 3 and the Specialist award in Dementia Care at Level 2.
Karen Anderson, Director of Total Eclipse Training Solutions, who personally delivered all the training and provides assessment support to learners, commented,
The quality of life for individuals can be significantly enhanced by Care Workers who are able to empathise and who appreciate the effects upon the individual of living with a potentially disabling condition.
Whilst dementia may pose many challenges, I believe that individuals can live well with the condition if those supporting them provide person centred support in order to meet both their physical and emotional needs.
Bluebird Care is taking a responsible approach in ensuring that its care workers are able to work in partnership with customers and their relatives enabling them to live securely in their own homes.”

New 24-Hour Live-In Care Service
Bluebird Care launches new 24 hour live-in care service for West Berkshire, Basingstoke & Deane and Hart.
Live-in Care Service
Bluebird Care today announces the launch of its new 24hr live-in care service. The award winning home care provider with offices in Newbury and Hook and with over 6 years’ experience in domiciliary care provides high quality care to people in their own homes and this new 24 hour live-in care service is an extension to their already popular range of home care services.
The Newbury office serves the whole West Berkshire area including Hungerford, Newbury, Theale and all the surrounding villages.
Bluebird Care’s live-in care service provides people living in their own homes with the very highest one-to-one care service, benefiting from a dedicated ‘personal assistant’ living in their home to take care of their every need. This may involve any or all aspects of personal care (assistance with getting up, washing, personal hygiene etc) and generally ‘keeping house’.
The personal assistant may also do the shopping or accompany their customer on visits to friends, appointments and generally getting out and about in the local community. One of the beauties of live-in care is its flexibility. No two days need be the same and customers can, if they wish, choose a different agenda each day.
Phil Miles, Director of Bluebird Care (Newbury & Hook) said:
Our new 24 hour live-in care service really is the ultimate personal assistant for our customers and promotes our ethos of independent living in the comfort of your own home. It effectively removes the need for anyone to ever leave the home they love to go into a residential care home. No upheaval, no stress, instead a care service that works around your individual needs enabling you to remain in your own home surrounded by familiar family, friends and possessions”.
John Prendergast, Director of Bluebird Care (Newbury & Hook) added that:
we take pride in only recruiting the very best carers for our customers and know that this new service will transform the lives of many for the better”.
Bluebird Care’s other services include helping its customers with a variety of tasks including personal care, domestic help, shopping trips out, assistance with medication and help with mobility issues. In addition to traditional care, they provide companionship services and consider a game of dominos, a trip to the bingo or helping with the daily crossword as being just as important to improve people’s quality of life. Bluebird Care’s Care Workers also support people with dementia and with end of life care in their own homes to enable them to be surrounded by their family and friends at this most emotional time.
