Hampshire Disability Cricket

We take an active interest in promoting good causes across the UK. In 2011 we sponsored the Hampshire Disability Cricket team which is now known as Bluebird Care Hampshire Disability Cricket. Hampshire Cricket Board has one of the most advanced disability cricket programs in the country. The Disability Cricket Program provides training and promotes opportunities in disability cricket. 

This project won the National Lottery Awards - Sports Category, televised on BBC1 in November 2011.

Jeff Levick, Chairman of the Hampshire Cricket Board, has been awarded an MBE in the New Year honours 2012, for services to disability cricket in Hampshire.   Jeff, who has been chairman since 2001, created the coaching and playing programme and established school leagues, catering for differing levels of players’ abilities.

Player profiles 

Dan, aged 16, is an exciting young prospect from Basingstoke.  He is a solid middle order batsman and destructive spin bowler who showed his class in 2011 when he tore through the Isle of Wight’s batting line-up with career best figures of 5 for 32. 

Following a number of outstanding performances in regional tournaments and training camps Dan has been selected to represent the England Physical Disability Team and is currently busy preparing for his inaugural match against Pakistan in Dubai later in Feb 2012.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Royal Navy Football Association

Bluebird Care Franchises has recently signed a sponsorship deal to support the Royal Navy Football Association – helping to fund the training of match officials for Royal Navy football competitions.

The sponsorship deal runs throughout 2012 and provides the RNFA with financial support which will aid the funding of new match officials kit and training programmes.

Simon Dalziel, Franchise Director at Bluebird Care said, 'Being locally based to Portsmouth, the home of the Royal Navy, we are delighted to sponsor the Royal Navy's football referees.  Bluebird Care recognises that sport has an important role to play for many people, particularly our Armed Forces and we are pleased to show our support for the Royal Navy and Royal Navy football in this way.'

The RNFA was formed in 1904.   Each year the organisation trains around 20 referees, with candidates from both civilian and military backgrounds.  The aim of the organisation is to recruit match officials for Royal Navy football competitions and also to support the Football Association in achieving its objective to provide a qualified referee for every affiliated game of football. This is in line with the Football Association's National Strategy. Approximately 50 Representative matches take place each season with the majority of the matches being played in the South and South West of England, London and the Midlands.

In the spotlight

Each month, we profile one of the Royal Navy Referees.  This month we are featuring Michael Clements, pictured below.

Royal Navy Football Association referee, Engineering Technician (Weapon Engineer) Michael Clements, 20, serves in Royal Navy warship HMS Westminster and currently works in the Air Weapons and Aviation Facilities Section but has spent time in a number of other equipment areas.  Michael will move between sections as his career progresses and will be responsible for radar, sonar, missiles, computers and communications equipment as well as torpedoes, depth charges and aviation facilities.  In addition to his technical role he has ‘whole ship’ duties such as firefighting and damage control.

Originally from Goole in East Yorkshire, where his parents still live, ET(WE) Clements became a football referee in February 2011.  He will deploy with HMS Westminster in January 2012 for over six months as the Ship heads through the Suez Canal and into the Indian Ocean and Middle East.  The Ship’s mission is to conduct maritime security operations (including anti-piracy operations) to defend Britain’s interests in the region and to reassure our allies. 

Michael said,

I enjoy life in the Royal Navy.  It is challenging and hard work, but everyday is different and I know that I’m doing something genuinely worthwhile.  Being a football referee also has its challenges but I love the game and am trying to play my part to make the game better for everyone involved.

  

Bluebird Care (Lewes) sponsors Denton Island Indoor Bowls

Bluebird Care (Lewes) began sponsoring their local indoor bowls club, Denton Island Indoor Bowls, in August 2010.  The club, based near Newhaven, East Sussex is the most recent Bowls Club to be opened on the South Coast. The Club has a good mix of male and female bowlers and runs a large number of drives to provide good bowling opportunities.

Michelle Johnson, one of the Directors of the Lewes team said,

We sponsor the bowls score board as well as the Ladies Five match, where other clubs come down to Denton Island for the one day match in March.  We’re pleased to be able to support this local club, which provides a good activity and social location for those in the local community.

Bluebird Care (Weymouth) sponsors Weymouth & Melcombe Regis Bowling Club

Chris Scriven and Jo McMahon , Directors of the team at Bluebird Care (Weymouth) began sponsoring their local bowls team in January 2012.  

Chris commented,

We sponsor the club which includes all the men’s and ladies’ teams and the crib team.  In exchange for the sponsorship rights, we agreed to fund some access steps for the bowling green to enable those with limited mobility to access the green.  We felt that the provision of such a facility increased the accessibility of the sport to our customer group.  We’re pleased to be involved with this local club.  It was first built in 1924 and plays an important part in the heritage and sociability of the local community.

Bluebird Care (Bromley) sponsors Westcombe Park Rugby Football Club

Westcombe Park R.F.C is a rugby football club based in Orpington in south-east London. It plays in National League 2 South. It takes its name from the Westcombe Park area of what is today part of the London Borough of Greenwich, where the club was originally founded.  The club subsequently played on fields in Lee, Shooter's Hill and Sidcup before the move to Orpington.

Steve Davie, Director of Bluebird Care (Bromley) said,

We began sponsoring the club in September 2011, helping to fund the club’s development and finance sports equipment and training kit.  The club is well known and frequented in the area and has an active following, which we’re pleased to support.
