Formula 1 Crash Survivor Sets New Mobility Scooter World Record

Formula 1 Crash Survivor Sets New Mobility Scooter World Record

Following on from the news that Bluebird Care were sponsoring Steve Tarrant in his attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for ‘The greatest distance travelled in 24 hours by a mobility scooter’, it gives us great pleasure to announce that he succeeded!

After being asked by TGA if he would like to attempt to break the record, Steve valiantly agreed to take up the challenge and the attempt took place at this year’s Mobility Roadshow on the Speedway Ring at the Peterborough Arena. The Mobility Roadshow was held on the 21st, 22nd & 23rd June 2012 but Steve’s 24 hour attempt started at 2pm on Thursday 21st June and finished at 2pm on Friday 22nd June.

Bluebird Care were very proud to sponsor Steve for this attempt and despite the horrendous weather conditions for the whole period and the lack of sleep, he was successful in setting a new Guinness World Record™.

As well as sponsorship, Bluebird Care were also able to send some supporters along from the Peterborough & Rutland office in the form of Director, Tim Carey and some of the Care Workers. They were present to cheer Steve on during the attempt and offer any support required during this time.

The previous record was set at last year’s Mobility Roadshow by Jackie Weeden and was set at 154 miles (247.84 km). Steve Tarrant managed to complete 830 laps of the Speedway Ring on his TGA Mobility Scooter during the 24 hour period, which equated to 175 miles so he beat the previous record by almost 20 miles.

Steve insists that he would have been able to do a lot more if it wasn’t for the constant wind and rain but there is no doubt that he has set a very high target if anyone was to attempt to break the record again next year.

As part of this record attempt, Steve is also raising money for 2 very worthy causes. One of these is Accessible Motorsport, an organisation that helps less able people enjoy motor racing and the other is The Royal British Legion.
